“Truck Day” photos at the Library

Truck enthusiasts of all ages will enjoy strolling through the first – floor Gallery at the Burlington Library during the month of September, to see martin Grubner’s wonderful exhibit of photos taken at Burlington Truck Days from 2001 to 2008. Whether you’re hopping to catch sight of your self in one of the pictures or just enjoy looking at big vehicles, this exhibit will be a treat for the eyes.

Landlocked Forest Images

Do pause while entering and exiting the library building to enjoy the photographs of Burlington’s landlocked Forest on display in the glass cases in September. The photographs, contributed by members of the Friends of the Landlocked Forest, offer a fascinating look at what is, at present, a pristine nature preserve in our busy suburban town.

September
29th Annual Melrose Victorian Fair
September 13, 2009, 11:30am to 5pm
Rain Date Sept. 20th

The Melrose Victorian Fair, sponsored by the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, has been a major hometown event for the past 29 years. A day-long celebration, the Victorian Fair has become a beloved community tradition.
A two block section of the bustling Main Street retail hub is closed to make way for the booths that will line the street on both sides. Performance stages are set up at various spots featuring local performing artists as well as dances and demonstrations by Melrose children. Canopied booths beckon the public with games, crafts, food and prizes. It is not unusual to see a mini-golf course set up on Main Street. And, you will never leave the Victorian Fair hungry because local restaurants prepare tasty samplings for the crowds that roam the downtown area. The day’s gala celebration is brought to a grand climax with the drawing of the Chamber’s “Big Ticket” Raffle prizes.

Woburn Civic Welcome Wagon

The Woburn Civic Welcome Wagon is still in need of volunteers to help welcome new families for the Holiday Season and the New Year. The Welcome Wagon is made up of current Woburn residents who have volunteered to go out and greet people and families who have recently moved to the Woburn area. New residents are greeted with a booklet of helpful information including local government figure information, helpful Woburn websites, and a calendar of events among other things.

The booklet also includes important numbers such as to city departments, local schools, and local Woburn hospitals and emergency numbers. It also includes detailed information about local organizations and other generally helpful information to have if you are new to Woburn. Along with the booklet new residents get voter registration information, postal service information, a small gift, and most importantly a familiar face to say "hello" to!

New greeters are always welcome and needed! So if any current residents are interested in helping out with the program don't hesitate to contact Morgan Randall at mrandall@sciwoburn.org or by calling the SCI Woburn office at (781) 935-5820.
