The History of Northern Bank and Trust
Upon a petition from Thomas Mawn and James Mawn, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts approved a bank charter for Woburn Bank and Trust Company on February 24, 1960. Since then, the Bank has evolved into one of the premier financial institutions in the state offering full deposit and loan products to both commercial and consumer customers. In 1987, the Bank's expansion into surrounding communities necessitated that the Bank amend its chartered name to Northern Bank and Trust Company in order to embody the region for which the Bank serves. Currently, the Bank maintains ten branches in the communities of Acton, Billerica, Burlington, Chelmsford, Littleton, Melrose, Westford and Woburn.
